Overview

Tampines Secondary School offers Electronics as an O-level subject. This course aims to equip students with a sound understanding of basic electronics. Some of the topics covered include:

  • Fundamentals of physics and electricity

  • Types of resistors

  • Voltage and current sources

  • Capacitors

  • Light emitting semiconductors

  • Sensors

  • Output devices

  • Bipolar junction transistors, and

  • Project management.

Each week students will go through about 3 hours of lessons which comprises of both theory and hands-on sessions to equip them with the relevant knowledge and skill. Students will get to learn how to design electronic products such as the Transistor organ, Rain detector, Alarm system, Electronic timer, Heat sensors and Intercom system.

Assessment format

Paper 1 (Written Paper -70%)

Section A (40 marks) - Short answer questions

Section B (60 marks)- Long questions

Paper 2 (Coursework- 30%)

Duration 32hrs
