Mrs. Michelle Joyce

2022 - 2023 is going to be amazing! I can't wait to help make it your best year yet! Thanks for enrolling in my class! Let's have a fabulous year!

The best way to reach me is by emailing me at mjoyce@tooeleschools.org. Plus, as we are continuing to use blended learning in the classroom, you will find most assignments on Canvas. Links to anything else that we use, will be found there as well.

A LITTLE ABOUT ME . . .

I'm old. I used to be young. The good thing: I have more experience and a plethora of stories to tell you during class. Students know that they can get me to talk about most anything and they try to throw me off task. I'll admit, sometimes their efforts are a success. We do have a pleasant environment in my classroom and I believe that most students feel comfortable in Room 9.

This is my 20th year as a teacher and I have always taught Language Arts. I have also taught Speech, Debate, and Drama. In another life, I will probably be a dancing/singing instructor because those are two of my most favorite hobbies.

My days are usually spent as a teacher with my students and as a busy mom with my kids. My husband of 19 years is lucky to find a moment when I can actually look into his eyes and have a decent conversation. Life is good and crazy and I LOVE it very much! There is never a dull moment!

I spend a lot of time running my kids to and from football, baseball, basketball, track, and anything else that three teenagers can do to stay busy. However, having an extra driver in the house, Frank, is very helpful.

On a day when I have nothing else to do (which is not often), you can find me watching videos on YouTube about solving real-life crimes. I am very interested in forensics and learning about methods used to solve mysteries. Puzzles, karaoke, and crocheting are also on my list of enjoyable activities. A favorite stress-reducer of mine is walking around my neighborhood alongside my Saint Bernard, Barry, while listening to an audio book, country music, 80's, oldies, or the soundtrack to a Broadway musical.

Something that became a love of mine because of teaching is handwriting analysis. My students know that I love to analyze their handwriting -- there's actually a couple of books that I have read about handwriting analysis and it's amazing what one can learn about someone else simply by evaluating the stroke of the pen.

My most important goal, as a teacher, is to encourage students to have a desire to always want to learn -- about EVERYTHING. Another goal that I have always had, as a teacher, is to show my students how much I care about them and how much I want to help them to progress in their skills involving reading, writing, listening, viewing, and speaking.

Ultimately, if you are in my classroom or if you have a child in my classroom, please know that your child is in good hands. I deeply care about professionalism and establishing a positive teaching/learning environment.

Thank you for trusting me.

Now . . . let's get to work! :)
