 Netherlands Fellowship Programme (NFP) for Developing Countries Students for MS PhD Degree Courses

Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs under the budget for development cooperation is pleased to offer Netherlands Fellowship Programme (NFP) for developing countries’ students. Fellowships are available for masters degree programmes, short courses and PhD studies at a Dutch higher education institution.

The NFP aims to help increase both the number and the competencies of skilled staff at a wide range of government and non-government organisations.

The Netherlands Fellowship Programmes (NFP) promote capacity building within organisations in 51 countries by providing fellowships for training and education for professionals. The NFP is initiated and fully funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs from the budget for development cooperation.

Candidates must be a national of, and working and living in one of the countries on the NFP country. Applicants from outside the home country will often need to meet specific English language/other language requirements in order to be able to study there.

Course Level: Fellowships are available for masters degree programmes, short courses and PhD Studies at a Dutch higher education institution which offers the NFP-qualified course.

Study Subject(s): Fellowships are awarded in all subjects offered by Dutch higher education institutions.

Scholarship Award: An NFP fellowship is intended to supplement the salary that the fellow should continue to receive during the study period. The allowance is a contribution towards the costs of living, the costs of tuition fees, visas, travel, insurance and thesis research. If applicable, the fellowship holder is expected to cover the difference between the actual costs and the amount of the personal NFP allowances.

Scholarship can be taken in Netherlands

Eligibility: The fellowships are awarded in a very competitive selection to highly motivated professionals who are in a position to introduce the newly-acquired skills and knowledge into their employing organisation. The NFP is meant for professionals who are nationals of and work and live in one of the 51 NFP countries. The countries have been classified into two categories (I and II). Category I countries are priority countries and will receive more fellowships. Candidates have to be nominated by their employer to be eligible for the fellowship. There also has to be a clear need for training within the context of the organisation. Applicants must meet a number of criteria that support the aim of the NFP to be eligible for a fellowship. To be eligible applicants:

·         Must be a national of, and working and living in one of the countries on the NFP country list;

·         Must have an employer’s statement that complies with the format EP-Nuffic has provided. All information must be provided and all commitments that are included in the format must be endorsed in the statement;

·         Must not be employed by an organisation that has its own means of staff-development. Organisations that are considered to have their own means for staff development are for example: multinational corporations (e.g. Shell, Unilever, Microsoft), large national and/or a large commercial organisations, bilateral donor organisations (e.g. USAID, DFID, Danida, Sida, Dutch ministry of Foreign affairs, FinAid, AusAid, ADC, SwissAid), multilateral donor organisations, (e.g. a UN organisation, the World Bank, the IMF, Asian Development Bank, African Development Bank, IADB) and international NGO’s (e.g. Oxfam, Plan, Care);

·         Must have an official and valid passport;

·         Must not receive more than one fellowship for courses that take place at the same time;

·         Must have a government statement that meets the requirements of the country in which the employer is established (if applicable).

Monash University Scholarships for International Students in Australia, 2017

Einstein International Postdoctoral Fellowship in Germany, 2017

Applications are invited for Einstein postdoctoral fellowship available for young researcher from abroad for conducting science research project at one of the respective Berlin universities or Charité.  International applicants are eligible for this fellowship.

The programme offers high-achieving young researchers in Berlin, who already have a source of funding, the chance to include a postdoctoral researcher from abroad in their junior research group and to obtain additional support for material resources.

The programme also seeks to attract international postdoctoral researchers to Berlin by offering them the opportunity to work in the city for up to five years.

Before applying for this programme, the applicant must have procured funding to set up and establish a junior research group at a Berlin university.

Course Level:  Fellowship is available for postdoctoral researcher to work in Berlin for up to five years.

Study Subject: Fellowship is awarded for science research project.

Scholarship Award: 

·         Funding is available for a postdoctoral researcher (Einstein Postdoctoral Fellow) who must be recruited from abroad by the applicant. The researcher’s remuneration will be based on the collective wage agreement adopted by the state of Berlin and may in exceptional cases equal the income of the junior research group leader.

·         Applications may also include an item of expenditure of up to € 20,000 per year to cover material resources for the Einstein Postdoctoral Fellow. In addition, funding may be made available to enable the junior research group to take part in further training in science and research management.

Eligibility:  Junior research group leaders, who are already receiving funding (e.g. from the DFG or an ERC Starting Grant) to set up and establish a junior research group at one of the respective Berlin universities or Charité, are eligible to apply for this programme.

How to Apply: Before applying for this programme, the applicant must have procured funding to set up and establish a junior research group at a Berlin university. Applicants are required to use the application forms provided by the Einstein Foundation. Applications may be submitted in any discipline by the dates posted on the Foundation’s website. Applications may only be submitted by junior research group leaders, and with the consent of the university management. If individual host institutions have internal deadlines for applications to the Einstein Foundation, applicants should liaise with the contact person at their institution (a list is included below) well in advance. The application for funding must include:

·         A description of the part of the project on which the Einstein Postdoctoral Fellow will work.

·         An explanation of how the work of the Einstein Postdoctoral Fellow will be embedded in the project as a whole, and of the expected added value for the junior research group.

·         A cost plan according to financial year.

Macquarie University Australia Vice-Chancellor’s International Scholarships, 2017

Macquarie University is pleased to offer scholarships for international students in 2017 academic year. Scholarships will be awarded to undertake undergraduate and postgraduate degree program at Macquarie University.

The Macquarie University Vice-Chancellor’s International Scholarship provides a partial tuition fee scholarship for outstanding students to study at Macquarie University North Ryde campus. 15 Japanese Research Fellowships for International Applicants, 2017

Applications are invited for 12th Hakuho Foundation Japanese Research Fellowship. These fellowships are open to international researchers working in the fields of Japanese language, Japanese language education, Japanese literature or Japanese culture who reside outside Japan.

With the goals of further strengthening the fundamentals of international research into Japan and deepening understanding of Japan, the Hakuho Foundation Japanese Research Fellowship invites leading international researchers of the Japanese language, Japanese language education, Japanese literature and Japanese culture to Japan to conduct residential research.

Hakuho Foundation supports frontline efforts, particularly efforts in the realm of language, that help nurture children’s ability to feel, think, express themselves and live with one another.

Canadian Government Scholarships for International Students

The Government of Canada launched the Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships (Vanier CGS) program in 2008 to strengthen Canada’s ability to attract and retain world-class doctoral students and establish Canada as a global centre of excellence in research and higher learning. Vanier Scholars demonstrate leadership skills and a high standard of scholarly achievement in graduate studies in the social sciences and/or humanities, natural sciences and/or engineering and health.

To facilitate access to Master’s degrees by students with qualifications from foreign universities, the University of Lausanne provides around ten Master’s grants which are awarded on a competitive basis.

Up to 500 Humboldt Research Fellowships are available for experienced researchers to carry out a long-term research project (6-18 months) at a research institution in Germany. Scientists and scholars of all nationalities and disciplines may apply.

A Humboldt Research Fellowship for experienced researchers allows you to carry out long-term research (6-18 months) in Germany. Applicants choose their own topic of research and their academic host. The fellowship is flexible and can be divided up into as many as three stays within three years.

The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (German: Alexander von Humboldt-Stiftung) is a foundation established by the government of the Federal Republic of Germany and funded by the Federal Foreign Office, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development as well as other national and international partners; it promotes international academic cooperation between excellent scientists and scholars from Germany and from abroad.

·         Three expert reviews from important collaborative partners and/or academics from the candidate’s own institute and, if possible, from abroad.

·         Necessary language skills: humanities or social sciences and medicine: good knowledge of German if it is necessary to carry out the research successfully; otherwise a good knowledge of English; natural sciences and engineering: good knowledge of German or English.  On behalf of the University, the Cambridge Trust is offering the Cambridge International Scholarships to pursue PhD studies for 2017-2018 academic year. International students are eligible for these scholarships.

The aim of the Cambridge International Scholarships is to ensure that the 250 highest ranked students, irrespective of nationality, receive full financial support to undertake research leading to a PhD.

ITEC Countries in India, 2016-2017TEC/SCAAP Scholarships 

The Government of India is delighted to offer Indian Technical and Economic (ITEC) Programme for 2016-2017 academic year. Citizens of all ITEC countries are eligible to apply for this programme.

These programmes promote the experience, expertise, and resources of the host countries and offer a means by which essential skills and knowledge can be shared with, and benefit, the wider Commonwealth family.

The decision regarding setting up the ITEC programme was predicated on the underlying belief that “it was necessary to establish relations of mutual concern and inter-dependence based not only on commonly held ideals and aspirations but also on solid economic foundations.

Course Level: Scholarship is available for short term training programme

Study Subject: Training is related to areas of national comparative advantage and delivered using resources based in the host country. There are 47 premier institutions conducting 280 short-term, medium-term and long-term courses across seven broad categories:

Scholarship Award: Participants will be provided with the following allowances and facilities:

·         Excursion/ economy class air tickets for travel from the capital city of the participant’s country to the training Institute in India and back;

·         Gratis Indian Visa for the duration of the Course;

·         Course fees – borne by Government of India;

·         Accommodation provided by Government of India in hostel/hotel, depending on the Institute. Participants are required to pay for services availed by them such as (a) Room Service, (b) Laundry, (c) Local and outstation telephone calls, fax, etc.;

·         Living Allowance @ Rs. 25,000/ – per month and on pro-rata basis for part thereof to meet expenditure on food, out-of-pocket expenses, etc. The allowance is calculated from the date of arrival till the date of departure;

·         Disbursement of the Living Allowance will be made by the Institute on a weekly/fortnightly basis (as decided by the Institute); the participants are supposed to pay for their meal out of this allowance. In case the Institute makes arrangement for the food, a portion of the allowance will be deducted by the Institute in advance and the rest will be paid to the participants. Participants may wish to bring some extra money for shopping and other dietary needs;

·         Book allowance of Rs. 5000/- for purchase of Course-related books and purchase receipts need to be submitted for reimbursement;

·         Study Tour(s) as part of the Course Curriculum to familiarize with Indian culture and history (which is mandatory);

·         Medical facility is for ailments of immediate and emergency nature occurring in India. No medical reimbursement allowed for ailments of chronic nature. Participants must carry their own medicine for regular and chronic ailments like diabetes, hypertension etc. For regular/chronic ailments, all consultation charges of doctor, medicines etc. would be borne by participants.

·         If any special assistance is required by a participant during his/her stay in India, that should be intimated to Mission as well as to the concerned Institute prior to departure for India. It is advised that participants check with the Institute about the availability of facility required by him/ her.

The University of Alberta is offering doctoral scholarship at the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research. This scholarship is open to both Canadian and international students for winter 2017 intake.

The purpose of this scholarship is to recruit superior students at the doctoral level who have the potential to contribute to the University of Alberta’s community and research.

The JN Tata Endowment for the Higher Education of Indians

Loan Scholarship Process

The J. N. Tata Endowment awards a one-time loan scholarship only at the beginning of the course to Indian nationals for full time Postgraduate/Ph.D./Postdoctoral studies abroad and in India, in all fields, irrespective of caste, creed, gender or community. The amount to be awarded to each Scholar by way of the loan scholarship is determined on the basis of the norms laid down for the purpose, and does not cover the full cost of studies. The amount awarded as the loan scholarship ranges between Rs.1,50,000/- and Rs.6,00,000/-. All applicants do not necessarily qualify for the maximum amount.

The selected scholars may also qualify for a gift scholarship and travel assistance from our allied Trusts as may be decided at the sole discretion of the Trustees of the concerned Trusts. A gift scholarship can be for a maximum amount of Rs. 10,00,000/- and the travel grant can be a maximum of Rs. 50,000/-.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants should be Indian nationals who are graduates of a recognised Indian University, with a consistently good academic record and other achievements to their credit. Students in the final year of the degree course and those awaiting results are eligible to apply. Mid-career professionals up to the age of 45, with a good academic record and experience in their fields for further research, specialisation or training may also apply. Candidates need not have the admission/offer letters from the Universities to which they have applied for the academic year 2016-2017 at the time of making the application. Candidates going abroad for seminars, conferences and undergraduate studies are not eligible for the J. N. Tata Endowment Loan Scholarship.

Selection for the Awards

Apart from consistent academic performance, we give importance to participation in both co-curricular and extra-curricular activities.

A good GRE/GMAT/TOEFL/IELTS score is extremely important for those applying overseas. If you have received a low GRE score, it may be advisable to improve upon it, to increase your chances of receiving the loan scholarship.

A good statement of purpose will make a significant difference to your chances. We have provided some guidance on our web site on how you can construct a good statement of purpose.

After the initial screening of applications, candidates who are found suitable and those who have secured the admission will be called to attend the interview at their own expense.

The Interview

Candidates should note that to be shortlisted for an interview is no guarantee of receiving the loan scholarship. The interview carries a significant weightage in the selection process and is conducted at Mumbai by a Technical Committee between March and June 2016. Candidates should come prepared with knowledge of their subjects and suggested areas of interest, as they will be examined in depth and detail. There will be two interviewers, one of who is a subject-expert and the other is Director of the Endowment. We may wherever necessary conduct a preliminary telephonic interview.

The final selection of scholars for the award of the loan scholarship is based on the following criteria:

(1) Performance at the interview;

(2) Results at the final examiniation; and

(3) Evidence of admission to a reputed University abroad.

The Awards will be announced within one week from the time of the interview by mail. The Trustees' decision on the award of scholarships is final. Correspondence in this regard will not be entertained.

HKSAR Government Scholarships for International Students in Hong Kong, 2016-2017

The Government of Hong Kong is offering scholarships for local and non-local students for the academic year 2016–2017. These scholarships are available for pursuing full-time degree programmes at participating universities in Hong Kong.

With a view to attracting outstanding local students to advance their studies at home and meritorious non-local students to pursue higher education opportunities in Hong Kong, the HKSAR Government established in 2008 the $1 billion HKSAR Government Scholarship Fund (the Fund) to recognize outstanding local and non-local students.

The aim of education for Hong Kong is to promote students’ whole-person development and life-long learning capabilities. Education helps to unleash human potentials and enhance people qualities and the competitiveness of the HKSAR.

Students need to demonstrate that they have a good level of written and spoken English.

Course Level:  The scholarships are available for pursuing full-time publicly-funded programmes at degree or above levels at the following    p articipating institutions (City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Baptist University, Lingnan University, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the Education University of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, the University of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and the Vocational Training Council).

Scholarship Award: The scholarship is $40,000 per year for local students and $80,000 per year for non-local students.  In 2011, the Government injected $250 million into the Fund to extend the benefit to students of full-time publicly-funded sub-degree programs offered by five institutions ( the programmesCity University of Hong Kong, the Education University of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, HKAPA and the Vocational Training Council) from 2011/12 academic year onwards.  The scholarship award for these sub-degree students is between $20,000 to $30,000 per year for both local and non-local students.

Eligibility:  Applicants must meet the following guidelines

Talent Development Scholarship (TDS): To be eligible for the TDS, students should:

·         be currently pursuing full-time publicly-funded/UGC-funded undergraduate and postgraduate program;

·         achieve a minimum CGPA of 3.0 or equivalent, or

·         have a recommendation from respective supervisor(s) (applicable for postgraduate research students); and

·         receive an award in either inter-institution, local, regional or national event within recent three years (from January 1, 2012 – present) in one of the following areas with documentary proof: Sports and games; Music and performing arts; Culture, arts and design; or Innovation, science, and technology.

Reaching Out Award (ROA): To be eligible to apply for the ROA, students should:

·         Be currently pursuing full-time publicly-funded/UGC-funded undergraduate or postgraduate program;

·         Achieve a minimum CGPA of 3.0 or equivalent, or

·         Have a recommendation from respective supervisor(s) (applicable for postgraduate research students); and

·         Participate in an outreaching activity that is conducted outside Hong Kong in the academic year 2016-17 with proof of admission/enrolment.

Endeavour Merit Award: EMA shall be made on the basis of merits to students with SEN who:

·         are currently pursuing full-time publicly-funded/UGC-funded undergraduate or postgraduate program;

·         achieve a minimum CGPA of 2.5 or equivalent, or

·         have a recommendation from respective supervisor(s) (applicable for postgraduate research students); and

·         are able to provide documentary proof of SEN

The University of Adelaide is inviting applications for a number of graduateresearch scholarships available to recent graduates to continue their education via a masters or doctorate degree by research. International students can apply for these graduate research scholarships.

·         be completing their masters degree** with a sufficient research component to be approved by the Research Education Development Committee as a degree acceptable for entry to the PhD (refer to the Academic Program Rules) at the University of Adelaide in that semester OR have completed the above that year or in the previous year; ** Students undertaking a coursework masters degree will be required to obtain an overall grade of Distinction with not less than a High Distinction in their research component(s) to be eligible for scholarships.

2016 Centenary Scholarship in Economics at University of Queensland, Australia

The School of Economics School is pleased to offer Centenary Scholarship for international students. The scholarship is available for students who excel academically to undertake a Bachelor of Economics at the University of Queensland.

Freigeist Fellowships for International Researchers in Germany

The ‘Freigeist’ initiative is directed toward enthusiastic and charismatic scientists and scholars with an outstanding record: through a highly flexible funding scheme junior researchers are given the opportunity to enjoy maximum freedom in their early scientific career.

The ‘Freigeist’ initiative builds upon the previous funding scheme for junior research groups and the Dilthey- and Schumpeter Fellowships which were terminated recently. These will be integrated into the ‘Freigeist’ initiative, providing continuous support for scholars from the humanities and social sciences but at the same time offering new chances for the sciences as well.

By thinking ahead the ‘Freigeist’ fellow will act as a catalyst in overcoming existing disciplinary, institutional and even national boundaries.

What does it cover? During the first five-year period of funding a substantial is expected of the hosting institution/university (rooms, IT infrastructure, computers, assistant workers, resources). Extra-mural institutions as Max-Planck-Institutes or Helmholtz Centers are to contribute 50 percent of the total amount of the project costs (only project-specific costs, overheads may not be included in the calculation). A lower contribution may be acceptable for other research institutions. For the possible second phase of funding it is expected that the hosting institute (if applicable) provides funding for personnel – and in all cases the prospected of offering the Fellow a permanent position.

Selection criteria:
-the applicant’s personal qualifications
-a capability for independent research
-the scientific quality/originality of the project
-depending on the thrust of the project: the potential for breakthroughs, new methodological approaches, interdisciplinary cooperation
-a constructive approach to possible risks

Notification:  The Foundation envisages to come to a decision within nine months after the respective application deadline. Candidates who – due to the reviewers’ assessment of the written application – will not be invited to present their projects, will receive a notice in due course after the first review panel meeting. In consideration of the high number of applications it is in these cases not possible to give reason for the decision or to communicate comments from the reviewers.
