My name is Courtney McGinnis. I graduated from Harding Academy in 2005 and went on to the University of Memphis. I graduated with a BA in History in 2009 and then with a Masters of Arts in Teaching in 2011. I teach AP Human Geography, Contemporary Issues, US History, and coach track. I started at Brighton High School in January of 2011.
Teaching and coaching are both passions of mine. Teaching and Coaching allow me to influence young people and transform them into responsible young adults. I take this job very seriously. My motto and philosophy to teacher is advice my grandfather gave me "Leave things better than when you found them". I feel like if students leave better, both academically and personally, then when I found them - I have truly done my job. That is what being a successful teacher means to me.
I am originally from Sarasota, Florida. I absolutely love it in Florida and am usually there in whatever spare time I have. I enjoy traveling to new places when I have the time and money too (both which seem to be rare these days)
The most notable thing about me is I am a HUGE Florida Gators fan. I would even admit to being borderline obsessed. Football season is a super important time in my life. My other favorite teams are the Memphis Grizzlies, Memphis Tigers, Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots, and the Tampa Bay Lightning. I also LOVE roller coasters - which is funny because I used to be scared of them. My other hobbies include: reading, attending BHS events, traveling, and netflix! If you ever want a good book or movie suggestion just ask :)
