Moorhead Area Public Schools have been integrating technology into our daily lives. Now, every student has one. Chromebooks have been a huge part of the classroom in the past year. With Distance Learning, we have relied on their technology to continue learning. Moorhead High School has updated its Chromebook maintenance.
Chromebook Checkout
While Chromebooks are a big part of learning, losing them can be quite easy. I asked Mr. Arnold, the librarian, the question: Can I check out a Chromebook from the Library? The answer; no, you cannot. Chromebooks are not available for Checkout in the Media Center currently, but the plan is for that to be changed. When that policy changes, an email will be sent out to the entire school, alerting them of the update.
Chromebook Repair
It is not a new fact, technology is easily broken. A Missing key or cracked screen is very easy to come by. That is why I decided to look into; What do I do if my Chromebook breaks? To start, bring your Chromebook to the Media Center, where they will bring it to IT. Depending on the damage done, It could take one day or a couple of weeks for it to be repaired. If it takes a day, you will be left without a Chromebook for that day, if it takes any longer, you will get a replacement for the time being.
Tracking Chromebooks
Someone stealing your Chromebook is not your fault, but it is your responsibility to get help with finding it. The Media Center staff and IT will be able to track the general location of your Chromebook. Your Chromebook will send out an IP address, which sends out a signal to the school, giving them a 3-mile radius of where it is. If the situation escalates, the Police will become involved.
It’s no secret that our generation spends most of their time on the internet. What people don’t know is how dangerous it can be. Can the school track what I do on my Chromebook? Yes, they can. It can happen in two different ways. The first is something that teachers use frequently. GoGuardian. GoGuardian is an application that sends what you are doing on your Chromebook to your teacher. The second way the school tracks your computer is through google. The school has your Chromebook set up with a school email. Whenever you sign into google with your email, the school can see what you do. Google keeps a log of your history, which the school has access to. There is no way to delete your data, as the school has this locked. Have no fear, students aren’t the only ones with this setting, all Students and Staff computers are being tracked by the school.
