There was a proposed rule change for Minnesota boys hockey. The rule change was stated to lengthen the schedule by adding games as well as the periods to twenty minutes instead of seventeen. Personally I don't really have a preference as to what the MSHSL decides to do with the current rule but I can see why players and parents of players would want either option. The lengthened periods would give players more ice time and thus more time to score and make plays. The extra games would do the same but it also means there is more chances for injuries to occur as the season would be much longer.

Senior forward Carter Randklev mentioned how the endurance would play such a big part in those longer games. “I wouldn't mind it, there would be some high scoring games,” says Randklev. “That's what the NHL and college guys do.” The change would cause players to get accustomed to the college and professional level much faster than they would if the rule wasn't change. In conclusion, the change would both benefit and punish the players based on how durable they are and how they hold up during the long season.
