Moorhead High is filled with bright students and understanding teachers who make students feel welcomed. New math teacher Stephanie Kimber is very excited to be apart of our High School community. Her unique background, love for traveling, and teaching is what makes her special.

Kimber is originally from Ohio she attended Ohio University, majoring in mechanical engineering. Kimber is the youngest out of her four siblings and she was the first to travel overseas and first to attend college. But, shortly after she graduated she realized that she didn't want to pursue in mechanical engineering and decided to enlist with the Peace Corps program. Which is a program that gives any volunteer the chance to have an opportunity to live overseas and make a difference. After that Kimber received her master's degree in physics she decided that she wanted to make a difference and travel overseas with the Peace Corps.

Traveling all the way to Tanzania, Africa for approximately three years, Kimber taught students math and physics. Kimber also spent a year and a half in South Africa, lived in Greece and visited the United Kingdom and France. On her long trips she always thinks about all the ways she can help others and stay connected to people. After she converted to Islam she met her husband and from there they decided to move to Moorhead, MN where she was offered a job here at Moorhead High.

“My goal in life is to help other people succeed,” Kimber states. She took the job offer that Moorhead provided and decided to become a math teacher. Kimber believes that if she liked teaching and could show young adults how to do math, “maybe they could realize they could do other things in life” Kimber said. But, teaching in different communities also was very important to Kimber as she decided to move to Moorhead. “ I really do think it's a great and fast growing community” says Kimber as she opens her doors to educate all students here at Moorhead High. One of Kimber's main goals is to travel to Ghana, Africa and build a school primarily for girls, to teach them the understandings of Math and Physics. She wants to combine the knowledge of her husband who is also a mathematician, with his brother who is an engineer and his sister who is a Principal, and make an outstanding school to teach in.

As Kimber connects with her students and fits into her new community, she strongly stays true to who she is, continues to travel and teach everyday to make a difference.
