Marissa Jensen, an art teacher here at Moorhead High, has been a member of an art pop up shop since December of 2016. This pop-up shop includes many different types of artists, along with different styles of paintings. This studio is called White Moth and is in a building called APT, which is a creative incubator. White Moth allows for creative ideas to constantly flow around the studio. “It’s a really energetic space with so many different mediums,” said Jensen. Jensen’s ideas for art have come from an art therapy class taken in college, where she eventually trained to become a teacher, as Jensen had no intentions originally of becoming a school art teacher. She has created many paintings; they were formed in the little studio. “I like that art lets you express yourself, but helps people connect to their world,” said Jensen. For Jensen, art helps her rethink certain ideas relating to life and other events. Jensen’s husband has done mostly oil paintings, and mostly likes to do landscapes. Jensen, however, uses a different medium. She mostly creates ceramics like planters or woven wall hangings. Many of her ideas come from the studio or thoughts that were rethought in her head. Jensen’s communication of art has inspired others around her. As she became a teacher, her ideas flow through the minds of students. Jensen is a creative thinker and has been involved with art since college. Jensen will help shape the minds of students, family and friends through different forms and mediums of art.
