There are a variety of things to do at Moorhead High, from playing an instrument with an ensemble, to partaking in your favorite sport. Take for instance the Tater Tot improv troupe; founded last year, the troupe is starting out with a variety of fresh faces, “I am glad there are students at the school who want to join us to be wacky weird storytellers, improv is a good way to express yourself and to show others what you can do,” says troupe co-leader Hurley Halverson. Rehearsals include a variety of games that are not only fun but to also improve improvisation skills. Games like “Onion” where you have three different scenes, first starting out with one actor and when another actor joins in a new scene is created, when a person leaves the scene it reverts back into the old scene. While some see the troupe as a fun activity to be in, others see it as a new opportunity to test their acting ability, “I joined because improv is a new challenge for me, something I am not familiar with and will take me to places I was previously not ready to go to,” says co-leader Jude Collider. The Tater Tot Improv troupe is an activity that is not going away soon. With its talented roster, and its wacky and weird performances, the Tater Tot improv troupe is an activity that is not only improving, but is also improvising.
