Synopsis:

Akeelah has a crazy passion for words: the more abstruse and labyrinthine, the better. But this gift is almost overwhelmed by the challenge of her daily life in a tough, Chicago neighborhood. Akeelah’s aptitude earns her a spot in the National Spelling Bee, which inspires the people in her neighborhood with her courage and tenacity.

Audition Materials: Please prepare a one-minute monologue for this audition. We will also do cold readings from the script.

Please come prepared to list all rehearsal conflicts between January 24th and March 23rd. Rehearsals will begin on January 21st and will be on Tuesday – Friday evenings as well as on the weekends (Sunday afternoons and evenings)
