I believe that education is the key to a bright future not only for each student individually, but also as a whole community. Not only do I have a passion for teaching young minds, but I also hold the desire for learning and self improvement of myself. Education is the most powerful tool which you can use to change the world. You are always a student, never a master. You have to keep moving forward.
I believe students are better engaged in learning when they are given ownership. When it is time for independent reading, students should be able to choose their books. Furthermore, when it is time to write they should be given opportunities to write on topics of their choice. Similarly, using investigative Math problems is a practice I feel is most effective to develop a strong understanding and foundation for Math. Working with peers promotes teamwork and gives the student an opportunity to learn from and teach others.I use various ways as I formatively assess students. I find various forms of assessment whether it is an interactive class discussion, formal written test or quiz, warm-ups, exit slips helps me accurately understand what I may need to focus on during instruction for the child's achievement in a particular topic area.
I carefully select and analyze what homework assignments a students who really need repeated practice. I find busy work is ineffective and discourages the eagerness to learn. For this reason, homework if any given, will be a brief refresher and practice to what is being taught in the classroom. No new topics will be assigned for homework and little to no parental intervention would be needed. In my opinion, assigning homework prepares students for upper grades and helps build responsibility.
