As always, before I begin any painting, I start by sketching the subject in my sketchbook.
I believe that sketching and making marks beforehand is essential for achieving a strong composition and framing the work.
For years, I’ve been photographing my sketchbook alongside the subject I was drawing — moments that I would later also translate into paintings.
In this series, I bring my original sketch directly into the painting itself. I explore drawing on the canvas with the same graphite I use in my sketchbook, merging it with layers of paint.
This combination fascinates me — it becomes a third layer in my creative process: part study, part drawing, part painting.
Medium: Acrylic and graphite on canvas
