Introduction
Modified sports can take many forms but are generally designed to provide an introductory and/or more accessible offering to various potential participatory groups such as children, mature-age participants, persons with disability, time poor people, or for those who are simply looking for new physical activity and social engagement opportunities.
Modified sports can also provide an opportunity to develop general movement skills and basic techniques. Modified equipment, facilities, and rules are commonly used because of the developmental stage (age, physical size, motor skill proficiency) of participants.
Students select a contemporary game. Use the following link. Modified Sports (Click on the link)
What are the reasons for modifying a sport?
Students in pairs /groups then need to take the contemporary game and introduce modifications in with new/ different rules, strategies and tactics are implemented. You obviously can use an existing game but the challenge is to select a game which isn't modified as yet.
Eg Touch Football ----------becomes Offside Touch
Cricket ---------- becomes Diamond Cricket
Soccer ---------- becomes Soccer Tennis
Be prepared to teach this modified game to the class.
You must include:
Specific instructions, demonstrations and rules that describe the game
The organisation and management of your modified game e.g. time, groups, correction, feedback
Evaluation this will be a conversation, question and answer scenario with your class teacher and peers during and or at the end of the session
Evaluation can focus on the success/failure of new rules, the outcomes of these new rules and innovations, the impact of the changes on time, space and the demands on the participants, links that could made to/with other sports eg
