Problem  Of  the  Week!

with school-wide mathematical thinking and fun!

An optional school-wide math practice program.

One problem targeting K-2 grade math standards - ORANGE.

Another problem focusing on 3-5 math standards - BLACK.

• Multiple ways to participate

• Electronic distribution and submission

• With QR codes to Nearpod.com / Nearpod app

• Use the 5 letter code provided to "join" the problem.

• Submit a photo of a page of work or use the tools given in Nearpod to answer the problem.

• Email Mrs. Stem with a picture of the student's work.

• Paper copies 
• Available via printing or near the fish tanks
• Can be returned to Mrs. Stem or put in the completed work folder.
• All problems will be archived on Mrs. Stem’s STEM page.

• Trying to solve the problems is valued more than correct answers!

• To qualify as an attempt all answers must include:

• Name, Grade, Classroom Teacher

• Numerical answer

• In a sentence (BLACK)

• With labels (ORANGE)

• Work shown (and legible)

• POWs will not be graded

• Reward system

• Based on Attempts

• Not based on correctness

• Each 1 attempt = a P.A.W.S.

• With bonus prizes at significant intervals

• i.e., 5 attempts = Picture on our Super Math Hero Bulletin Board

• 20 attempts = Pizza Party with Mrs. Stem

• Classrooms with high participation for a month can also earn prizes

• i.e., extra recess

• Benefits

• Practice with mathematical thinking, multi-step math problems, and writing about math.

• Positive and appropriate use of technology.

• Fits with STEM focus.

• Not required / Not tied to grade.
