BIOL 3310: Cell and Molecular Biology

This course focuses on the regulation that occurs with almost all the processes found in the cell. Rather than memorize all the details of every pathway in the cell, the student is challenged to take a conceptual view of the cell and start to understand how all this regulation shapes the function and development of the cell. Students soon realize that everything we observe, whether it's cancer metastasizing, environmental adaptation of an organism, or behavioral changes, is dependent on the regulation (or caused by dysfunction of regulation) of the processes in cells.

This class is sometimes described as a boot camp, with students expected to perform at peak levels on exams, writing a grant proposal, and showing proficiency with lab techniques.
