About Us

The neighbor love of Jesus is at the heart of who we are and who we want to become. We  recognize that we are on a journey together with God's help. We start at different places and not all paths look the same. We trust in the grace of Jesus for empowerment to become our best selves; to be someone who, each of us in our own unique way, loves God, loves our neighbor, and fully accepts ourselves. Are you on a journey of growing in God's love for you, your love for your neighbor, and your acceptance of yourself?

You've found a community where we hope you can feel you belong!

Communion

The Sacrament of Communion is essential for us as a community of faith bound together in the amazing love of Jesus. We celebrate the sacred space of belonging in God's love that Jesus has created for each of us in our partaking of the Communion meal the first Sunday of each month. All are welcome to fully participate whether or not you are a member of the United Methodist Church or any church.

Our Commitment to an Inclusive Ministry

Jesus led his first followers into an inclusive ministry in first century Israel. Therefore, all are welcome to participate in the mission and ministry of Athens UMC regardless of age, race, nationality, ethnicity, background, gender, sexuality, or disability. (The Book of Discipline of the UMC, paragraph 161)
