Kindergarten-1st grade: Locomotor movements (hopping, galloping, skipping, jumping), spatial awareness, balancing, growth mindset, perseverance

2nd-5th

Hula Hoop Pass: Circle of about 5. Hold hands. Pass the hula hoop around the circle as quickly as you can. You can step through, raise your arms, lower arms, anything (as long as hands are being held).

Noodle pass. Students are laying down in a line, feet next to the shoulders of the person in front of them. They are to pass the noodle with their feet, without their hands, so they get it to the other side. After they pass it, they run to the end to get ready for the next pass. If the noodle touches the ground of they use their hands, they re-start. After they do that, they come up with their own ways to get it to the other side. Rules are no hands, noodle can’t touch ground, and must be in a line. Be creative! Group of 4-5

Noodle run: One runner, 4 noodle holders (with one noodle in each hand). The student begins running. After they cross the first person’s noodles, that holder runs to the end and puts the noodles down again so the runner isn’t touching the ground. After the runners pass each person, the holders keep going to the end of the line.

Connection: Students are on backs, side by side in a line, legs vertical, feet by wall. You are to use your feet only to pass the big ball so it’s rolling off the wall to the next person’s feet. After you roll it to the next person, run to the end and lay down, similar to Noodle Run.

Building “Hula Hut”: Groups of 3-4. Building a “hula hut” with hula hoops (6 each group). This requires lots of teamwork and communication. Practice active listening to others before you speak. They practice crawling through.

Throwing:

Cues: Turn toward favorite hand, "T", step “L”, throw! 2 Heads: Throwing and team building: Groups of 3. There are two catchers who work together to catch the ball in the bucket. If they catch it, they bring it back between their heads, collaborating. If they drop it, they have to re-start!

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Welcome back to Anasazi! For those who don't know me yet, my name is Kyle Bragg, the P.E. teacher. This is my seventh year teaching and second here at Anasazi. I am extremely excited to work with both you and your child/ren!

At Anasazi, we are looking forward to providing your child with an exciting and rewarding physical education program. The P.E. classes will prove to be an integral phase in their physical and social development. We take pride in our program and are committed to giving the students the best instruction possible.

The aim of our physical education program is to develop and improve students’ personal fitness and motor skills by providing developmentally appropriate activities through purposeful, creative and enjoyable instruction. By incorporating challenging yet achievable tasks, the students will attain positive attitudes about physical activity and movement.

Your child’s locomotor movement, manipulative skills, personal behavior, and fitness level will be monitored and assessed throughout the school year. All P.E. lessons at Anasazi align with both the national standards and state standards. Our curriculum also incorporates aspects from Tandalay Physical Education (www.tandalay.com).

The following are the expectations in P.E:

  1. Do your best

  2. Do what is right

The students will have P.E. once every four days for 45 minutes. We are concerned about your child’s safety and for that reason; we ask that they wear athletic shoes. Shoes with heals, boots or sandals (such as crocs) make it difficult for children to participate safely.

For those of you interested in the before school Recreation program, information will be coming soon!

I’m eager to work with each and every family! Together, anything is possible! If you ever have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to email me at kbragg@susd.org.

Sincerely,

Kyle Bragg
