Michelle Oberlander was raised in Shasta County, graduating from Anderson Union High School with a healthy interest in mathematics. She attended Shasta College and continued on to Simpson University where she earned her degree in Mathematics for Teachers, and her single subject teaching credential. Since graduation she has participated in the Math Project (CSU Chico), North State NSTIR (CSU Chico), and SCMP2 professional development projects as well attending conferences and TI-Nspire training.

While working at U-Prep, Ms. Oberlander has taught Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Algebra II, Trig/Precalculus, Integrated Math 1, Honors Integrated I, Honors Integrated II, Honors Math 8, Math Lab, Computer Applications, and AP Computer Science Principles as well as advised the Robotics, Gardening, and MATHCOUNTS clubs. In 2009 the Robotics club team became a finalist (in top 8 of 27 teams) at the Botball competition and earned the KISS award. Many of the MATHCOUNTS teams have won first place and had the opportunity to participate in the state competitions held at University of the Pacific, Stanford, and (during the pandemic) online.
