I generally prompt my students to "put their tongue" up to make the L sound. If your childs more guidance, you can model the sound in a exagerated way or you can provide you child with a mirror so that they can see where their tongue is.

Prompt your child to keep their tongue up and teeth closed in order to make their best /s/ sound. A mirror is helpful so that your child can see if their tongue comes out between their teeth or if it stays behind the teeth where it should be for the /s/ sound.
