Kevin Mattia
Coach Mattia joined the Suffield swimming family as interim head coach in the winter of 2014-2015. During that winter he helped guide the boys swim team to a top 10 finish at Class S states for the first time in 3 years. In 2015-2016, now head swim coach, the team improved on that accomplishment with a 7th place finish in Class S. This occurred despite the overall team size of 10 and Suffield High School not being a part of a conference. Coach Mattia believes in focusing on the fundamentals of the swimming strokes through use of video and stroke drills. That coupled with individualized training in the athletes chosen strokes for conditioning to achieve their goals.
Coaches background
From ages 7 through 14 Coach Mattia swam locally for United States Swimming with Charter Oak aquatics and Windsor Locks Water Jets. In his youth he specialized in sprint to mid distance freestyle, butterfly and breaststroke, but often competed in all strokes. Due to Windsor Locks high School not offering a swim team, Coach Mattia chose to join the soccer and basketball teams leaving the sport of swimming. He also played baseball, and all three sports under legendary Coach Dan Sullivan at Windsor Locks High School. When deciding on college at Central CT State university, Coach Mattia joined the swim team and competed at the division 1 level.
From Coach Mattia
"I have been afforded some wonderful experiences from my youth and collegiate coaches. Through these experiences, I have a great deal of respect and appreciation for the sport of swimming that brought me so much joy. One of my personal goals, is to give back to the sport of swimming, and to the athletes, as so many have done for me."
Kim Marker
Coach Marker has been the Assistant Coach for the boys team since the 2014-2015 season, and the Head Coach of the girls team since the 2020 season.
