Conference: 8th Period (3:03-3:50)
Room Number: 104
Course Overview:
Physics is the branch of science concerned with matter and energy, as they relate to mechanics, heat, electricity, magnetism, and atomic phenomena.
Policies & Procedures:
I expect you to give me or what we are discussing/engaged in your undivided attention. This will prevent you from having homework.
I will allow you to bring backpacks/purses into the classroom as long as they do not present a problem. This allowance can and will be taken away if problems arise. Backpacks/purses are never allowed in the lab.
I strongly recommend that you have a binder to keep all of your handouts, bellringers and graded assignments/quizzes/test in. Studying is much easier if you are organized and have all of the required handouts/bellringers/assignments that may contain information that will be on the tests and quizzes.
Grading Procedures:
Daily Work: 10%
Labs: 30%
Quizzes:30%
Tests: 30%
Daily work consists of class work, assignments, participation, and homework. Homework will be due at the beginning of class the next day unless I tell you otherwise. Daily work can be corrected for half of your points back.
Labs consist of lengthy assignments, computer-based labs, hands-on labs, and projects. Labs can be corrected for half of your points back. Labs can be corrected for half of your points back.
No retakes on quizzes, but can be corrected up to a 70.
Tests will be given at least once in a six week period. I do not give official six weeks tests. Some of our tests may coincide with the end of the six weeks but I will not administer a test just because it is the end of the six week grading cycle.
Retakes on Tests are allowed IF all of the following conditions are met:
1) Grade of below 70
2) Test must be corrected outside of class and within 3 days of receiving your graded test back. If the questions are multiple choice, then you must rewrite the question and the correct answer on a separate sheet of paper. If the questions are matching or labeling, I will provide you will a duplicate copy of the questions. This duplicate copy may not be identical to the original test.
3) If 1 and 2 are met, you can obtain up to a 70.
Class Rules:
No food/drinks allowed in class. Only water
Absolutely NO CELL PHONES/or personal communication devices at any time during the instructional school day. This includes Hornet Period, Break, and Lunch. If I see a phone or personal communication device, I will confiscate it and give it to the office. This is a LAW.
See Restroom/Hallway pass at the end of this form for my policy on that.
NO PENS! You may take notes in pen but anything you turn in MUST be done in pencil. I will not accept work done in pen. Mistakes will happen.
Be Respectful and Prepared
Respect me, other classmates, substitute teachers, as well as all school property and the property of your classmates. If you intentionally tear something up, you will be expected to replace it. Be prepared to turn in homework, start a discussion or begin an assignment. This means having your desk prepared with a pencil and whatever it is that we are doing.
Class Supplies:
1) Pencils
2) Calculator (you will get one from the math department and I have some that can be used in class)
3) Notebook paper/something to take notes in/on
4) Folder or Binder
