Language, Technology, and Teaching

I believe that one of the primary goals of a foreign language teacher should be to keep up with new technological trends since these tools dominate our modern life. There are many technological gadgets that can be used to improve the learning of a new language. Multimedia teaching resources have improved significantly over the years. Nowadays, these tools are more attractive to students of any age, in particular, to the so-called "Digital Learners."

As a mother of two boys, I understand very well that modern students are immersed in a technological world. Social networks, video games, smartphones, they all are part of their day to day life. As a foreign language teacher, I will work with technology to help my students learn in a digital world that it is already familiar to them making sure they do so in a save and control environment. I will teach them that to learn a new language they must also be equal to learn about the culture of the people that speak such language.

Another of my main academic goals, as a Spanish teacher, will be to help my students using a more personal level by sharing my experiences as a learner of a second language. I will show them that it does not matter their background: economic, social, cultural, if they learn to follow and work for their dreams, doing the best they can with them, they can achieve all their goals; learning a new language for example. I will try to encourage my future students to never stop learning because knowledge is a treasure that nobody could take away from them. I would like that make students use what they learned in my class as part of their grow into productive members of society.
