Established on September 7, 2010, by Robert Savignac, Stigmabase is a Canadian non-governmental and nonprofit initiative dedicated to providing information about global stigma and offering accessible data for researchers. Stigmabase emphasizes the importance of accuracy, listing only reliable sources.
Stigmabase had curated and archived over one million news articles worldwide, referring more than sixty million readers to the Global Press. On a weekly basis, Stigmabase compiles hundreds of news items addressing social exclusion and its underlying causes on a global scale. The initiative strives to serve as an agent of change, working to combat social exclusion internationally.
Robert Savignac identify, himself, primely as a Montrealer. His response to Plamondon and his separatists is simple: I am not reducible to a language or a religion, and I do not want YOUR country built on this constraint.
As business manager and president of a network comprising ten bookstores, he has published 161 books, including 49 translations from English to French. With formal training as an accountant, he held the position of VP Finance at a leading translation firm in Toronto, undertaking numerous management and organizational projects, including the development of various web communication strategies.
After experiencing burnout in the late 1990s, Robert transitioned into a career in information technology, creating management applications for bars and restaurants. His subsequent role as an administrator in Montréal's Gay Village exposed him to daily challenges associated with prostitution, substance addiction, and gambling.
These experiences represented a significant turning point in his life, fueling his commitment to advocating for equity, harm reduction, and reintegration.
