Shannon Cross, an 8th grader, participated in the Memory Project. The Memory Project is a unique initiative in which art students create portraits for children and teens around the world who have been neglected, orphaned, or disadvantaged. Given that kids in such situations tend to have few personal keepsakes, the aim is to provide them with a special memory that captures a piece of their childhood. As much as possible, we also want to help the kids see themselves as works of art.
To do this, art students receive photos of kids on a waiting list and then work in any medium to create the portraits (drawing, painting, digital art, collage, etc). Next, the portraits are delivered to the kids as gifts. The child Shannon drew is from Rwanda. )

What is KidWind?
The KidWind Project is a team of teachers, students, engineers, and practitioners exploring the science behind wind and other renewable forms of energy. Our goal is to make renewable energy widely accessible through hands-on activities which are challenging, engaging, and teach basic science and engineering principles. Founded in 2004, KidWind has established itself as a leader in renewable energy STEM curriculum and teacher training throughout North America. The standards-based curriculum provides an interdisciplinary platform for grades 6-12 teachers to engage students in wind energy science and technology. Mrs. Tucker and Mrs. Sweet received training from the Scale-Up grant, as well as resources to collaborated and provide this curriculum to Starmont middle school students.
