Big Local Journalism

Finding and telling stories with data dates back hundreds of years. Modern-day data journalism, using computing to find and tell accountability stories, began in the 1960s following the race riots in Detroit. But much data is still not readily available, nor is it used by local journalists to effect change as much as it could be. When journalists do use data to find and tell important stories, laws and lives can be changed.
