6.    If an angle of incidence is 30 degrees, the angle of reflection is 30 degrees.

8.    Draw a long wavelength.

9.     All surfaces reflect light, only some do it brightly, and some do it dully.

10.                        In the dark, dark colors will have the least amount of light reflected.

11.                       Using your mirror, how would you hold it so that you could see around the corner?

12.                        Reflection occurs when light is shown on an opaque object.  Why not on a transparent object?

The Prayer service for Grandparents is in the Church at 9:30.  Around 10, they will come back to school.  If they are taking their grandchildren to the Book Fair, have them go first, as the lines are long.  Then I will be in the class to meet them.  Please send in a note, letting me know that your children's grandparents are taking them home.  We will have a sign-out sheet in each classroom.  Grandparents only have to sign out in one classroom, if there are more than one grandchild.

It was a good Catholic Schools Week.  I really enjoy your children.  Every night there are stories around the Convent table about your children.  The older Sisters love to hear them!  God bless.  Sr. Elizabeth

Puppet Book Report due Dec. 11

The puppet MUST represent the book content and/or the traits of the main character. For example, if a student chooses the book How to Eat Fried Worms, the puppet would be a boy. He could be holding a frying pan with worms in one hand, and possibly an orange crate in the other. His shirt may say something on it about courage or have a picture of the mini bike he is trying to win.

Puppets can be as creative as the student & family wants to be. Puppets can be made out of paper bags, socks, sticks, etc… This is a great project for talking with your child about character traits, and how different characters in stories exhibit a multitude of traits. Have fun creating your character puppet.

To MEET expectations for the Puppet book report, students must demonstrate all of the following criteria during book IN CLASS presentations. I suggest students practice their presentations at home before the in class experience to lower their anxiety levels

MEETS EXPECTATIONS:

* The student knows the name of their book.

* The student knows the author of their book.

* The student can articulate the main characters of their book.

* The student can articulate to the class at least 3 character traits. (TWO of the three must be other than physical.  Examples may include imaginative, caring, cooperative, curious, organized, flexible, smart, adventurous, and so forth… Students explain how the character showed those traits in the book.

* The student can articulate a main event in their book.

* The student has a puppet representing a main character as a visual aid for their audience.

*  The student can articulate to the class if they do or do not recommend their book to the class and give a reason.

Study Sheet for test on Microscopes and Lenses

1. 10 X objective gives most details of a specimen.

2. Largest field of view is 4 X.

3. Light is needed for the microscope to work.

4. If a specimen measures 3 cm, and when it is magnified, it measures 9 cm,

the power of magnification is 3 X.  If a specimen measures

5 cm, and when it is magnified, it measures 25 cm, the power

     of magnification is 5 X.

5. Convex lenses can change how you see the image.  Sometimes  it’s larger; sometimes smaller, sometimes smaller and inverted.

6. Eyes, magnifying lenses,  and microscopes have lenses.

7. Objective on the microscope refracts light.

concave lens makes the object appear smaller, and glass slides make it appear

the same.

10.   Magnify means make larger.

11.   Resolution means the image is clear and easy to see.

12.   The total magnification of the 10 X objective and the 10X eyepiece is 100X.

Hello, parents!

With the school year successfully under way, the Glee Club

will begin soon as well! All students who are in grades 1-8 are

invited to join. We practice every other Tuesday during lunch recess

in my music classroom. All are welcome! Our first practice will be

held on Tuesday October 31 st for the 1-4 grade students. The

following week, November 7 th , the 5-8 grade students will have

their first rehearsal.

Your children can have so much fun singing together in the

Glee Club. We sing songs by artists such as Taylor Swift, One

Direction, 5 Seconds of Summer, Harry Styles, Journey, Bon Jovi,

Lady Gaga, the Beatles, OneRepublic, Pink, Ed Sheeran, and

even some Disney songs and songs from “Sing!” movies! We

were even asked to sing The Star Spangled Banner at a

Wilmington Blue Rocks game for the last 5 years! WOW!

There is no cost to join the Glee Club. All I ask is that your

children be excited about singing together! This is a commitment,

so if your child is interested, please make sure to encourage them

to attend each week if it is their turn.

If your child is interested, please email me at

ADelargey@STAGlenMills.org. If you are already a Glee Club

member from last year, you do not need to email me. There

will be an announcement made on the loud speaker to remind

them. Thanks so much, and I cannot wait to hear.  Mrs. Delargey

2.  Largest field of view is 4 X.

3.  Light is needed for the microscope to work.

4.  If a specimen measures 3 cm, and when it is magnified, it measures 9 cm, the power of magnification is 3 X.  If a specimen measures 5 cm, and when it is magnified, it measures 45 cm, the power  of magnification is  9X.

Dear Parents,

The 4th Grade teachers are looking forward to being with your children next year. We have provided the following information to help you.

We will have a great year, and know that we are praying for you and your child...all summer!

The Math pages are right below the stationery list, or you can get them at the bottom of the web site as a pdf.

Fourth Graders will be doing 2 book reports over the summer.

Everyone does the book report for  Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing by Judy Blume.

For each of the 2 books:

 1. Make a construction paper cover, with title and author,in the center top, and your name in bottom right. Make or obtain a picture about something in the book in the center of the paper.

2. On looseleaf, write 4-6 sentences about your favorite part of the story. You may write or type the sentences, but do it yourself; don’t have someone do it for you.

3. Write 4-6 sentences telling how you are like a character in the story. Give examples from your life.

Options for reading the second book:

An additional book list has been provided, and you can choose the second book from the additional list.
