Subject level: Physical Education 11/12 - Active Living
The Big Ideas
Physical activity is an important part of overall health and well-being.
Finding enjoyable recreational activities can motivate people to participate more regularly in physical activity.
Safety and injury prevention practices allow lifelong participation in physical activities.
Curriculum: Balanced health and lifetime activities are the main focus throughout. Students will be expected to learn inside the classroom as well as the usual gymnasium and outside playing field. Healthy physical, emotional, sexual, and spiritual choices will be emphasized throughout the semester. Furthermore students will demonstate :
competencies and problem-solving strategies required for physical activity and recreation leadership
Develop and demonstrate skills needed to plan, organize, and safely participate in recreational events and other preferred physical activities
A selection of the following activities may be covered: aquatics. tennis, volleyball, basketball, badminton,football, curling, dance, weight training, hockey, broomball, rugby, billiards, hiking, golf, first aid, slowpitch, handball, ultimate frisbee, obstacle courses, fitness and nutrition, speedball, yoga and other curriculum-approved activities as determined by the instructor.
Student Absences and Evaluation:
Students who are unable to participate will receive a “0” for their daily performance mark unless the student has an injury or illness. When a student is ill or injured they must has a note from their parent or guardian. If the student’s illness or injury is of chronic nature they are required to have a note from a physician or health care provider. Students who are unable to participate are required to complete a worksheet or handout during the class time in lieu of their daily performance mark.
Evaluation Criteria:
You will be evaluated on the following criteria:
Reflective Formative 70%
Daily Work (Creation) – Self assessment (Experience) – Journaling – Assignments – Projects –
Performance level, involvement/exertion, and leadership in daily activities will be evaluated. All students are expected to change into appropriate PE attire.
