SEPTEMBER 28-OCTOBER 2, 2026
Content area work/upcoming things to study:
Religion - We are working on Session 1 in our Finding God text. We are also learning about St. Francis of Assisi, whose feast day is October 4.
Math - We are working on Chapter 2 (Addition and Subtraction) this week.
Science - We are using Science Weekly - Week 1 to develop a list of general science vocabulary terms. There will be a vocabulary quiz on these words on October 1. Students should bring home the Science folder nightly to study the words and definitions.
Social Studies - We continue to learn about maps. We will learn about the features of maps and globes, and how to use coordinates on a map/globe to find exact locations (latitude/longitude). We will have our first map quiz on October 7. Students will receive a map showing the 7 continents and 4 oceans of the world. We will glue it into our copybooks on Tuesday, September 29. On October 7, students will get a blank map, with numbers where the names of the continents and oceans should be. Using a word bank, students will need to identify the continents and oceans in their correct locations on the map.

SEPTEMBER 14-18, 2026
Fourth grade earned some house points for another great job behaving appropriately during Adoration with Fr. Jude on Monday! I am so proud of how quickly the class has adjusted to new routines and is meeting my expectations in and out of the classroom.
This week we continue to work on the following topics in our content areas:
Religion - kinds of prayer; creation story; Hallow app
Math - place value through the thousands period (hundred thousands place)
Science - general science vocabulary
Social Studies - map skills
SEPTEMBER 7-11, 2026
We successfully completed our first full week of school in 4th grade! The class has been working very hard to learn our new routines. I am so proud of them! They have already received "house points" and tickets in my jar to acknowledge their efforts. Their behavior at Mass last Friday was so respectful and reverent.
This week, we are still finishing up a few back to school tasks, but are slowly introducing our content work.
Religion - kinds of prayer; creation story; Hallow app
Math - place value through the thousands period (hundred thousands place)
Science - general science vocabulary
Social Studies - map skills
*Friday is the 25th anniversary of 9/11. I am sharing a website for students, parents, and teachers on the kids' Social Studies Google Classroom. There is a video appropriate for 4th graders from that website which I will show the children. Please feel free to have your child log into the Google Classroom at home and share the site with you.
Welcome to 4th grade!
We are trying something different this year in Grades 3-5. In an effort to build a sense of responsibility in our students, teachers will not be posting nightly homework assignments on our websites. I will post on the website at least once per week, but it will be more of a general overview of topics, assignments due dates and quiz/test date reminders.
Each student will copy specific homework assignments daily in the homework planner. Mrs. Hoopes and I check daily to be sure students have copied correctly from the board in my classroom.
I ask that a parent or adult in the home checks AND SIGNS the planner daily in the box for that day.
This week will look a little different in the planner. For this week only, your student will glue a checklist of back to school items in the planner. I ask that by the end of the week (Sept. 4) a parent has put a check next to each completed item and signed the checklist at the bottom. This is my way of being sure your child is set up for a successful school year!
I am looking forward to working with the children and their families!
