Header Record

The first 1024 bytes of any Maestro data file is a header formatted in accordance with the CXFILEHDR data structure found in cxfilefmt.h. The table below lists the information contained in the header, describing how the various fields assist in the interpretation of the remaining records.

As detailed in the version history, additional fields have been added to this header over time. The addition of a version field should help analysis programs deal with data files collected by different incarnations of Cntrlx and Maestro. Since none of the original fields have been changed in any way, and since the unused portion of the header is filled with zeros, these changes should be backwards-compatible. Old analysis programs will simply not be aware of the additional information available in more recently collected data files, while new analysis programs reading older data files will see zeros in the newer information fields.
