Congratulations to The Westfield Theatre Department for receiving (10) Tommy Tune Award nominations for our 2017-18 fall musical The Color Purple. Since its inception in 2002 the Tommy Tune Awards has grown to be the largest celebration of High School Musical Theatre in Houston. The annual awards ceremony sponsored by Theatre Under the Stars recognizes excellence of high school students and teachers throughout the Houston metropolitan area. After evaluating the 45 participating Houston-area high school productions, a team of Houston based theatre professionals nominated 165+ participants in 15 award categories.
Westfield High School’s The Color Purple received 10 nominations out of 15 categories:
Best Direction
Best Choreography
Best Lighting Design
Best Costumes
Best Scenic Design
Best Ensemble and Chorus
Best Featured Performer: Joy Edmonds, Brea Porter and Maddison Joyce as the trio of “The Church Ladies” Jarene, Doris and Darlene
Best Supporting Actress: Divina Ito for the role of Sophia
Best Leading Actress: Brianna Wyatt for the role of Shug Avery
Best Overall Production
Westfield will participated in the Tommy Tune Awards show at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, April 17th at The Hobby Center for the Performing Arts. The "Tony-style"televised event will feature: Best Actress: Brianna Wyatt, Best Supporting Actress: Divina Ito, FULL CAST performance in the Best Overall Production and in the opening and closing numbers. Congrats to the Cast and Crew of The Color Purple on a JOB WELL DONE.

TEXAS THESPIAN FESTIVAL
2017
The Westfield High School Theatre Department attended the Texas Thespian State Festival, held November 16-18 at the Gaylord Texan Resort in Grapevine, Texas. The participants were as follows: Mariah Campbell, Paulina Castaneda, Dorion Criner, Joy Edmonds, Joshua Hadnot, Divina Ito, Justice Jackson, Maddison Joyce, Serenity Lawhorn, Key’la Lewis, Zion Maddison, Brett Mills, Jada Phillips, Brea Porter, Ty Price, Chynna Richards, Lydia Singleton, Genivere Thomas-Alexis, Sondee Turner, Dylan Vasquez, Gavin Williams and Brianna Wyatt
At festival, Westfield competed against several and high school students from school districts all over the state of Texas for a chance to qualify and to compete at International Thespian Festival in Lincoln, NE on June 25-30 2018 at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
The following is a list of the categories and students who earned superior ratings (the highest rating awarded: 280 points) and qualified for nationals.

Justice Jackson and Brianna Wyatt auditioned for colleges and scholarships. Justice received (3) college callbacks. Brianna received (10) college callbacks and a $3,000 Texas Thespian Scholarship.
