This structure helps students to go deeper in their vocabulary journals! It includes a synonym, an antonym, a contextual sentence, and an illustration.

Students illustrate what the Idiom of the Week does not mean and what it does mean. Throughout the course of the week, students also put the idiom into a real context as part of their vocabulary work.

Dry erase markers can be used to write an exit ticket on the door. This is an awesome way to spiral review on the way to recess! When students listen to others' answers, the exit ticket also provides multiple contexts!

Students use dictionaries and thesauruses to do "detective work." Students turn in a notecard with an original, contextual sentence for each word at the end of the week.
