Mrs. Jaime McGillvrey
Hi! My name is Jaime McGillvrey and I am starting my 15th year of teaching Mathematics, with this being my ninth year at Spearfish Middle School. I currently reside outside of Spearfish with my husband, Josh, and our three children, Trey (14), Kai (12), and Memphis (9). We enjoy spending much of our time outdoors in the summer and are busy at sporting events the rest of the year. We enjoy watching our kids compete in soccer, cross country, basketball, football, and wrestling.
I graduated from Hitchcock High School in 1998. After high school, I went to college at South Dakota School of Mines & Technology, where I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering (IE). During college, I played four years of Women's Varsity Basketball. My IE degree allowed me to live many places around the nation and world. I interned for Lockheed Martin Aeronautics in Forth Worth, TX on their F-16 and C-130j assembly lines. Following graduation, I moved to Atlanta, GA, where I continued to work for Lockheed Martin Aeronautics, but this time on their F-22 assembly line. I worked as a Quality Engineer and Corrective Action Engineer during my two years there. Following GA, I received a work opportunity to live abroad. I moved to Kwajalein in the Marshall Islands where I lived and worked for two years. Kwajalein is a small island halfway between Hawaii and Australia where we focused on missile defense. While living there, I scuba dove in some of the clearest and most beautiful waters in the world. I went deep sea fishing and sailing. There were many unforgettable experiences that I would not trade for anything. But, with a two day travel from the island to the mainland, I wanted to be closer to home and my family. I moved from the island, and transitioned smoothly back into Lockheed Martin, but this time for the Missiles and Maritime Division. I was part of the Operations Leadership Development Program. I spent ten months in New Jersey and then moved with my program to Eagan, MN. Shortly after being in Minnesota, I met my husband, and we decided to move back to our hometowns. At this point, I realized that engineering was not for me, and I completed my teaching certificate. We then moved to Tulare, SD where I taught 7-12 Math for 6 years. We decided to move to a location that both of us have loved our entire lives, and then relocated to Spearfish.
Transitioning to teaching was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I am excited to get to know my students and have a positive impact on their lives. Outside of the classroom, I enjoy spending time with my children, being outdoors, and gardening.
