How You Can Help At Home
READ: You can help at home by reinforcing the importance of reading with your child. Whether you listen to them read, take turns reading, or read to them, it will help them develop as a reader.
DISCUSS: You can also help at home by having discussions. Listening comprehension is an essential prerequisite for reading comprehension. This is developed through conversations, hearing and sharing personal stories, and interactions with texts. All of this exposes children to new ideas, language structures, vocabulary, and concepts. Building these skills will help them as they begin to read increasingly complex texts.
