We are in the planning stages of our Spring 2023 track season. While we don’t know exactly what our season will look like, we are planning to have a season to get our athletes running and it is our goal to get our athletes competing on a track. As coaches, we are very much looking forward to this spring season!
Please note that any plans made are subject to change pending any restrictions or guidelines set forth by the state, county or school district.
Please read all instructions below in full:
All students that wish to participate in the Spring Track Team are required to have an up to date athletic physical completed and on file with the school. All physicals must be completed and turned into the school nurse’s office by March 15, 2023. Please make sure the physical is completely filled out or your child may not be permitted to participate.
The concussion and cardiac form are available and should be completed through the parent portal.
The athletic physical forms can be found on the SHS Athletics website
The history form needs to be filled out and dated PRIOR to the physical exam. The doctor needs to review the history form filled out by the parent at the time of the physical.
The physical exam page MUST have date of exam, physician signature, physician stamp, and physician signature for cardiac module.
Incomplete forms will be returned
Athletic Physicals are valid for 365 days. (The physical exam must be dated March 23, 2022 or later.)
Students with an athletic physical on file that is over 90 days old will also need to have a parent complete an health history update questionnaire. (Any date of exam prior to January 1, 2023 will need the update form - to be completed by the parent.) On the update form if you answer “yes” to any of the questions please include a thorough explanation.
Bring the entire packet to the appointment for the physical exam. The doctor needs to review the history form that you complete (page 1).
Write student's name on each page. Review the forms before you leave the doctor's office.
Be aware that the date of exam and the date the form is filled out may not be the same. Please be sure that the date of exam is filled out on the physical form. The date of exam is necessary for clearance.
Please make sure that the vision screen portion of the form is complete.
There are three spots for the doctor to sign in the physical packet. Please make sure he/she has signed in all three spots.
Practices and Meets
The season will likely begin the week of March 27, depending on the weather, and last until late May.
Practice will be held at Sparta Middle School on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 3-4:30.
Track meets will run past 4:30 and will be held at neighboring school tracks and/or Sparta High School. The team will be bussed to each meet and a bus is available to bring students back to SMS for parent pickup, if needed. Further details on bussing will be made available near the beginning of the season based on the current restrictions/guidelines.
This season the school is asking each athlete to contribute $25 towards the team. This will offset some of the costs of bussing and entry fees to meets. It will also include a uniform t-shirt for all team members. Please make checks payable to SHS XC Track Booster Club.
It is expected that all student athletes will maintain social distance during practice and meets. Athletes must have a mask with them at all times. They will not be required to wear a mask while running, but should be prepared to put on one when social distancing is not possible during practice.
If you have any questions about your child’s physical please email Mrs. Griffin in the school nurse’s office at Alexa.Griffin@sparta.org
