Honors & CP Physics
When the class Google Meets starting time comes you should be seated and ready to learn!
Required Materials:
A scientific calculator
A class notebook with folder
Chromebook for use on class and lab report
A measuring device. Meter stick is ideal. Yard stick, ruler or tape measure will do too.
Printer and paper
You must have a scientific calculator to use throughout the year in physics and bring it to class everyday, just like a writing utensil! Notebook checks may be done throughout the year. Lab reports must be done on a computer.
Note Taking
Physical science courses such as physics and chemistry are difficult and textbooks are often hard to follow. Good note taking is essential to succeed in physics. Your notes should be neat, organized and dated. When you are absent then getting the notes from classmates will be easier by dating them. You should be constantly reviewing your notes.
Make Up Due to Absence
It is your responsibility to do two things upon returning from an absence. First, get the notes from a classmate. An alternative is to ask for a recording of the missed lesson. Second, arrange with me to set due dates for any homework or tests missed. In general, you have one day to make up work for every day absent.
Minimum Marking Period Grades*:
Tests /Quizzes/Project -- 4
Lab Reports -- 2
Homework -- 4
* This is the minimum number of assignments due per marking period. The actual number of grades will vary depending on the topics covered.
•Sparta High School has adopted a total point grading scale:
Homework
The main homework is to review your notes and worksheets every night. I will ask at the beginning of class if there are questions on the homework. If there are, I will go over them. If there are no questions, I assume everyone understood the assignment. Homework will be typically worth 10 points each. The day I collect it is the only day I will accept it. No late credit will be given. I also reserve the right to change this policy. I do not accept late labs. If you miss the day a lab is due, it is due the day you return. Of course, I will consider special circumstances on an individual basis.
Tests:
Most chapters will conclude with a test or project. The test will be based on the class notes, the required reading of the chapter in the textbook, and homework.
Quizzes:
I generally give hints on impending quizzes. If I feel the class is not working as hard as they should be then I'll assume they already know the material and will be subject to a surprise quiz.
For quizzes and tests: All work must be shown in order to receive full credit. The work must be consistent with the answer. The best part of showing work is I believe in partial credit, even if you have the wrong answer, as long as you can show you know how to set up the calculations correctly.
Labs:
Most will be done at home by you and possibly partners. Some will be virtual or analyzing video of phenomenon.
Cheating/Plagiarism :
My policy is the same as the school's, if caught you will be given a zero and your parents will be contacted.
