Requirements of the Strings Program

All required items may be obtained from any source.

• Instrument and other required items (see list below). The following companies have offered their services:

• Home practice of the material covered in lessons. Suggested practice time: at least 10-15 minutes multiple times a week. Your child will not progress without this practice.
• Attendance at lessons and orchestra rehearsals
• Lessons take place once a week. The lesson time rotates from week to week, to avoid missing the same 35-minute time period consecutively.
• Orchestra rehearsals will also take place once a week, during school hours (FIFA period).
• Participation at 3 concerts during the year:
  • Monday, December 16, 2019--7 pm at SHS
  • Saturday, March 14, 2020--3 pm at SHS (4th Grade Orchestra only)
  • Thursday, May 14, 2020--7 pm at SHS

Instrument Requirements

• If you are obtaining an instrument from another source other than the Music Den or the Music Shop, the instrument must be approved by me prior to September.
• Colored instruments are not permitted.
• It is not advisable to purchase an instrument unless your child plays on a full size. Your child will probably start on a 1/2 or 3/4 size instrument. If you make a purchase now, you will have to buy a few more instruments as your child grows. If you are still considering purchasing an instrument, please consult me first.

Violin & Viola:

1. Rosin
2. Slim Softie shoulder pad (the Everest shoulder rest works better, but that item is optional)
3. Orchestra Expressions Book 1--please make sure the book matches your child's instrument
4. Tuner
5. Portable music stand (will be kept at home)

The items below are not included in the Music Shop or Music Den supply package:

1. Music bag (can be any tote bag or drawstring bag big enough to fit a binder, 1 music book, and a few small music accessories.)
2. 1" binder
3. Clean and empty dozen count egg carton

Cello:

1. Rosin
2. Endpin anchor
3. Orchestra Expressions Book 1 for Cello
4. Tuner
5. Portable music stand (will be kept at home)

The items below are not included in the Music Shop or Music Den supply package:
