**Reeds are an EXTREMELY important part of playing a woodwind instrument (minus flute). Students should have at least THREE (3) different reeds in their playing rotation. Playing a different reed each time they pick up their instrument helps to strengthen the embouchure and extend the life of each reed. Additionally it helps prevent excessive germ buildup over time that results from poor reed care. We will show the students how to care for them, but please double check them at home as well. Reeds are not cheap, but can last a long time if taken care of properly. Please invest in a reed case, they help keep the reeds safe and clean! The mouthpiece of a clarinet and/or saxophone is critical. A bad mouthpiece can really hinder a student’s progress while a quality mouthpiece (and ligature) can help a student tremendously. A mid-quality instrument can sound like a wonderful instrument with a good mouthpiece. These are certainly optional upgrades, but highly recommended.
