Living Conditions

Many immigrants came to the United States in the late 1800s and early 1900s in search of new opportunities. 

In the East, most came through Ellis Island in New York Harbor, home to the Statue of Liberty. The majority of these immigrants came from Europe. 

In the West, most came through San Francisco and its golden gate bridge. The majority of these immigrants came from Asia.
