Bienvenidos/Welcome to St. Monica School

Your St. Monica Principal

Mr. Eric Schommer

As a lifelong parishioner of St. Monica Catholic Church, I have dedicated my service to the growth of our community. I received my first communion in 1978, graduated from St. Monica School in 1984, was confirmed at St. Monica in 1986, was married in St. Monica Church in 1994, receive the Anointing of the Sick in 1994, and was hired as the director of Support Services for the school in 2006. In 2011 I was hired as the Assistant Principal and in 2016 became the Principal. I have been around the world but St. Monica is my home.

My daughter, Emily, started in Kindergarten at St. Monica in 2004 and graduated in 2013. After 4 years at Cathedral High School, she now attends Marian University studying Nursing. Jacob, my son, started in Kindergarten at St. Monica in 2006 and graduated from 8th grade in 2015. He graduated from Cathedral High School in 2019 and now attends UIndy studying sports management. While foster parents, our son Paul was enrolled at SMS in 1997. Catholic schools are an important part of our lives.

I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Moderate & Severe Disabilities from Indiana University in 1994 and acquired my Master's Degree in Education from Olivet Nazarene University in 2004 specializing in curriculum development and instructional delivery. In 2008, I entered the University of Indianapolis administrator's program obtaining my Master's Degree in School Administration in 2010.

Currently, I am the Principal working with a fantastic team of 53 staff members to educate 380 students in faith, family, academics and service from PreKindergarten through 8th grade.

As a family, we appreciate the education that only a Catholic school can provide. We believe in our mission statement: St. Monica, as a diverse Catholic community of staff, students, parents, and church, will provide the best possible religious and academic education, in a disciplined and caring environment. The students will develop sound moral values, discover their potential for life-long learning, and grow spiritually to become visible signs of God’s love.

Thanks and prayers go out to all of the staff that create a positive learning environment for our St. Monica students.
