James Bowser, tenor, serves as the Choral Director at Leonardtown Middle School. His 12th year at LMS, he has taught choruses for twenty-three years. Before LMS, he taught for three years at Edgewood Middle School in Harford County and nine years at Leonardtown High School. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, he also serves as choir director & organist at Holy Face Catholic Church in Great Mills, MD.
A 1996 graduate of LHS, Mr. Bowser earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from Frostburg State University and his Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance/Opera at the University of Missouri. Over the course of his teaching career, the choruses under Mr. Bowser’s direction have found success on local, state, regional, and national stages.
As a solo performer, Mr. Bowser has sung as a part of Two Rivers Harmony's Christmas Concert and has sung the tenor solo in Handel's Messiah with the COSMIC Orchestra. He also sang with Annapolis Opera Chorus in their production of Bizet’s Carmen, Southern Maryland Light Opera as Capt. Warrington in their operetta Naughty Marietta, Shreveport (Louisiana) Opera’s production of Mozart’s The Magic Flute, and with the University of Missouri’s ‘Show-Me Opera’ as Martin in Copland’s The Tender Land. He has performed as a guest soloist with Towson University’s opera production of Penhorwood’s Too Many Sopranos, the Chesapeake Chorale’s performance of Bach’s Weinachts-Oratoriem, and North Harford High School’s performance of Haydn’s Mass in Time of War.
