Step-by-Step Guide: Creating Football Highlights on HUDL

Step 1: Log in to HUDL

1. Go to HUDL.com and log in using your account credentials.

2. Click on your profile in the top right corner.

3. Select 'Highlights' from the dropdown menu.

Step 2: Create a New Highlight Reel

1. Click 'Create Highlight' to start a new project.

2. Name your highlight video (e.g., 'John Smith - Junior Season Highlights').

3. Choose the season and games you want to pull clips from.

Step 3: Select Your Best Plays

1. Pick 15-25 plays (1.5 to 4 minutes long).

 - Ideal highlight video length: 3-4 minutes.

 - First 30 seconds should be your absolute best plays.

2. Click on a game and find the clips that best showcase your skills.

3. Click the 'Star (*) Icon' on a play to add it to your highlights.

4. Ensure clips are clear, easy to follow, and high-impact.

Step 4: Arrange Clips Strategically

1. Best plays first - Recruiters often watch only the first 30-60 seconds.

2. Variety of skills - Show different aspects of your game (speed, power, technique, IQ).

3. Position-Specific Focus:

 - Skill players (RB, WR, DB, QB): Show explosive plays, cuts, and decision-making.

 - Linemen (OL, DL): Highlight strength, footwork, and finishing blocks.

 - LBs & DBs: Show tackling ability, reads, and coverage skills.

Step 5: Edit & Add Effects

1. Trim plays to remove unnecessary downtime before and after the action.

2. Add Spot Shadows or Arrows:

 - Click 'Edit Clip' -> 'Spotlight' to highlight yourself in each play.

3. Include Brief Text:

 - Add your name, position, class year, and contact info at the start.

 - Example: 'John Smith | LB | Class of 2026 | 6'2" 215 lbs | [Your Email]'

Step 6: Add Music (Optional)

- If allowed, you can add a song, but make sure it's clean and not distracting.

- HUDL may have copyright restrictions, so keep it simple.

Step 7: Publish & Share

1. Click 'Publish' when you're satisfied with your highlights.

2. Download & Share:

 - Post on Twitter (X), Instagram, and TikTok - tag coaches and recruiting accounts.

 - Send to college coaches via email or DM with a short, professional message.

 - Upload to HUDL Profile so recruiters can easily find it.

Final Tips for a Strong Highlight Video

- Keep it 3-4 minutes max - Coaches won't watch long videos..

- No celebration clips - Stay professional.

- Show consistent performance, not just one big play.

- Include key plays against strong competition.
