AENG 322 (Astrodynamics)

    • Syllabus (Spring 2015)

    • Everything you need to know about orbital mechanics on one (double-sided) page.

    • A 15-minute primer on using Matlab.

    • Midterm Preparation

      • Midterm 1 (Prussing 1.1 - 2.3)

        • The equation sheet (listed above) will be provided

      • Practice Exam 1

        • Solutions to Practice Exam 1

      • Midterm 2 (Prussing 6 & 7)

        • The equation sheet will be provided, as will this one: Rocket Equations

        • Practice Exam 2. Note that questions like parts 3c & d would not be on your test, and question 1 would be rephrased to not have SOI.

        • Solutions to Practice Exam 2 (Problem 2d is corrected!)

    • Homework Assignments

      • HW01: Stop your grinnin' and drop your linen!

      • HW02: You can learn all the math in the 'Verse, but you take a boat in the air that you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds

      • HW03: You know, sometimes I amaze even myself

      • HW04: We are from Planet DUPLO; we have come to destroy you

      • HW05: I don't believe in the no-win scenario

      • HW06: You're Backed into a Hyperdimensional Corner

      • HW07: Whoa...

      • HW08: Never Give Up, Never Surrender

      • HW09: Space is disease and danger wrapped in darkness and silence

      • HW10: I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time... like tears in rain

AENG 322 will be using Satellite Tool Kit, provided by Analytical Graphics, Inc. More information on AGI can be found by clicking the banner

Notes on the HW02 Online Submission (Wed 01/28)

The partial-credit/no-credit bugs have been addressed. The following issues are still observed:

    • In most cases, your answer will be marked "correct" if it is within 1% of the answer-key value. However, a 1% error in eccentricity will result in significant (> 5%) errors in other orbital parameters. If you skimp on the significant digits, the partial-credit system will start marking your correct answers as incorrect!

    • There are multiple ways to compute many of these parameters, but the partial-credit algorithm only uses one. Therefore, if you choose a different method, your answer might not match the partial-credit answer. (Remember: this online form is only the preliminary grade, not the final grade.)

  • Text answers are case-sensitive, and require your submission to exactly match mine. (This isn't a bug, per se, but an expected result. The online form is not evaluating fill-in-the-blank answers.)

And whatever you do, please don't spend hours (or even minutes) tweaking your form submission to get the "right" grade returned to you. The homework you turn in on Friday is what will be used to earn a grade; this is practice.
