Reading Response Prompts

Describe the setting of the novel you are currently reading.  Use VIVID descriptive SENSORY words to write a detailed description.  Appeal to all of the reader’s senses and use figurative language to help the reader experience the setting.

Winter in Maroo of the Winter Caves is cold and harsh. Snow covers the ground like a thick, white blanket, and the mountains rise high with sharp edges hidden under ice. The sky is often gray, and the freezing air stings the skin. Every breath turns into a cloud in the cold. Inside the caves, it is dark and chilly, but the small fires give a little warmth and light. Water drips from the walls, and the wind howls outside. Food is hard to find, and the land feels quiet and dangerous. Even though it is a hard time, the people stay strong by working together and helping each other survive.
