IMPORTANT update on attendance
Effective Monday, Sept. 8, please email attendance@sjswv.org, as well as your child's teacher, about absences, tardies or early dismissals. An email from you is equivalent to a handwritten note. Please note that chronic tardiness may be converted into equivalent days or unlawful absences. One absence can consist of three tardies. Our attendance policy is posted in FACTS under “resource documents” and on our website under “parent resources.”
Spirit wear update
The spirit wear shop closed Aug. 31. Thank you to those who ordered! The items are being printed/embroidered now and will be delivered to the school in a few weeks. They will be sorted and distributed as soon as they arrive. Thanks for your patience!
Bingo to benefit SJS, St. Leo Catholic Church
Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court 392 is hosting a bingo fundraiser on Sunday, Sept. 28, at St. Leo Catholic Church, 2109 Sulphur Springs Road in Inwood. Doors open at noon and games begin at 2 p.m. A snack bar will be open for lunch, and there will be bake and basket sales, as well as a silent auction. Tickets cost $30 in advance. Proceeds benefit Saint Joseph School and St. Leo Catholic Church. For more information, please call Judy at 703-928-4977.
Book fair
From Sept. 15 to 19, we are hosting a Literati book fair. The fair is open online, so if you want to shop early, you can look here: https://literati.com/store/?school=saint-joseph-school-martinsburg-wv. There are items on the site that can’t be purchased in person, so take a peek! Feel free to share the link with family and friends. Keep an eye out for correspondence from your children’s teachers about wish lists they have to build their classroom libraries.
Grandparents Day
On Thursday, Sept. 18, and Friday, Sept. 19, we will continue a beloved tradition of hosting Grandparents Day. Toddlers through PK4 students will welcome grandparents/grandfriends from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Sept. 18. Those in grades kindergarten and one can have grandparent/grandfriend visitors from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Sept. 19, while those in grades two to six may have guests from 12:30 to 2:15 p.m. Sept. 19.
Students in grades seven to nine will serve as guides during the events.

Catechists sought
If you love children and are passionate about sharing the love of Christ and His church, the Children’s Faith Formation program at St. Joseph Parish is seeking volunteer catechists (or catechist teams), as well as substitutes.
