Bottomless Pit of Doom!
Basically, musical chairs with checks on who is out.
Sit all the children on chairs in a large square with a one chair gap to act as an entrance to the centre. The chairs should be facing out from the square.
Tell the story of how the great Bloodbladder beast of Thrall has to be appeased by sending citizens into h is bottomless pit of doom (the centre of the square) -better if you have a speaker system so that you can manipulate the mic to add extra drama when you say Bottomless pit of DOOOOM!
When the music plays you (the citizens) must walk clockwise round the outside of the square. When it stops you sit on a chair. YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO GO ANTICLOCKWISE TO FIND A CHAIR.
Anyone without a chair is banished to the centre of the enclosed square i.e. the Bottomless Pit of Doom.
Obviously, the judges (staff) turn more and more chairs around so that more and more face into the square and thus cannot be sat on by citizens.
Place posters with the titles of current or classic films written on them around the sides of the hall.
Explain that these are the doors to the screens in a cinema.
When the music plays the participants must disco in the centre of the hall -no early queuing.
When it stops, this is when the cinema opens for queuing and participants rush to queue in front to the poster for the film they “want” to see.
The MC, facing away from the room so that they cannot see how many are in each queue, then reads out each title and says how many seats are available. E.g.”Snow White 6 places”, the front six in the queue are still in, the remainder of that queue are out and must sit in the designated “OUT” area.
The game continues until there are few enough to participants to have prizes.
When the music plays, children must show their best dance moves. Any not dancing are out.
When the music stops, they must freeze in a shape determined by the MC at the start of the music.
E.g. “This time you are going to freeze as Superheroes”. When the music stops, anyone not looking like or being able to explain their superpowers, is out. The last one to become a statue is also out as is anyone moving as a statue etc.
Other tried and tested statues:
Gorillas
Lions
Zebras
Pop stars
The headteacher
Their class teacher
Astronaut floating in space
On parcel per class wrapped in scrap paper. Each parcel should have the same number of layers and prizes.
Mats are arranged as water lilies round the hall
You are allowed three people per lily
When music starts you dance across the water i.e. not on the mats.
When it stops three people per lily -no more no less. Any with more -everyone on the mat is out.
Take lilies away each round.
Two chocolate bars on a tray with a knife and fork per class. Class sitting in a circle.
Tray is passed clockwise round the circle.
When the music stops, the person with the tray can cut a piece of chocolate off and eat it the knife and fork only. Set a time limit such as 10 seconds to make it fair.
Play “Let’s Twist Again” tune
Players must twist at all times when the music is on. If music changes, they must change style.
All time twist is playing MC sets tasks such as twisting really low, or as high as possible or on their side or just the hands.
Judges eliminate anyone not up to scratch such as lacking perseverance/stamina.
Players try to emulate the Bollywood moves on a Bollywood clip.
Boys v girls or one class v another -judging which group moves as a group, who best emulates the moves, who has the stamina to keep going….etc.
Play the “Bride and prejudice” wedding dance-off clip then use the “Bollywood Workout” clip for the competition.
