THIS IS KLAMATH RIVER

HORSE CREEK, Calif. -- Field trips aren't just about fun and games for students at Klamath River Elementary School, rather its an opportunity to give back to their community.

First-grader Keira Prukop says her classmates visited a nearby nursing home last December.

"A lot of them are sick and we put on our Christmas program for them," Prukop said.

Students also lend a hand in other parts of their community.

Recently, the older grades went to nearby parks and helped pick up trash.

"It's important to help others and it's really fun for us too," Prukop said.

Another unique program students partake in is an annual Salmon Release Program. Students raise the fish in classroom aquariums.

After the fish are mature enough, students then release the Salmon into the Klamath River.
