AP Language and Composition

**All students in this class are required to take the AP exam in the Spring. **

Course Objectives:Students in AP English Language and Composition learn how to write efficiently and effectively for a variety of purposes. Much of this writing will be based on non-fiction literature. The course overview and objectives are designed according to the AP English Language and Composition Description published by The College Board.

By the end of the school year, AP Language and Composition students should be able to:

____Read from a variety of historical periods and disciplines

­­­____Identify audience, purpose, and strategies in texts

____Analyze types of arguments authors use

____Write formally and informally for a variety of audiences

____Write expository, analytical, and argumentative essays

____Understand their own writing process and importance of revision

____Recognize techniques in visual as well as verbal arguments

____Synthesize ideas and information from various sources

____Know how to interpret information presented in notes and citations

____Learn proper MLA citations (both works cited and in-text citations)

____Use the conventions of standard written English
