PE grades in middle school are based on a point system (not a weighted system). A student's grade as largely made up of their "Daily Participation Grade". However, quizzes & assignments are also factored in.
A students Daily Participation Grade in middle school PE is largely based on class participation, effort & conduct. Students are expected to change out of their school clothes and into their PE clothes everyday in order to participate for class. Generally speaking, there are 25 class meetings within a marking period (quarter). Each day a student can earn up to 5 points a day for their daily participation grade. Students who are legally absent from school or who are medically excused from activity will not be graded for these classes.

Other reasons a student may have points deducted from their daily grade may include...
late to class (without a pass)
chewing gum
wearing jewelry (watches, bracelets, necklaces & piercings)
hair not tied back
not following general classroom procedures
In addition to a student's daily participation grade, quizzes &/or assignments are given for every unit in PE. These items will range in point value and will be facilitated via Google Classroom so they do not take away from class activity time. Students are responsible for checking their Gmail and Classroom pages daily to stay organized with new material & due dates. Make-up's are strongly encouraged! We want our students to learn all the material. However, quiz deadlines will be enforced.
If a student is unprepared for a class, he/she is encouraged to talk to their PE teacher about how a class can be made up (usually during intramurals of the same unit). Make-up classes will result in partial credit.
Other Notes Related to Grading:
Partial Credit for Daily Participation Grade:
Partial credit can be earned for a student's Daily Participation Grade. Here are some possible scenarios:
If a student is prepared with Sneakers but no PE Clothing they can earn a 1 point:
Students that have sneakers, but no clothing will participate for 1 point and will have the opportunity to make up the other 4 missed points at a later date (see "make ups" below).
Prepared with Sneakers, and only half of PE clothing (unchanged top or bottom):
Student will participate for 2.5 points, and be given the opportunity to make up the other 2.5 missed points at a later date (see "make ups" below).
Students that do not have sneakers on will not be permitted to participate in class, however they will have the opportunity to make up 4 of the 5 missed points (see "make ups" below).
Make-Ups:
Students will have the opportunity to make up missed points related to being unprepared within two weeks of any given occurrence. It will be up to the student to see his/her teacher to make an arrangement as to when this class will be made up. The teacher will make every effort to have the student make up class in one of their own classes, but if need be arrangements can be made with other PE teachers when conflicts arise.
