AIS?

~What does AIS stand for?~

AIS stands for Academic Intervention Services. These services act as a support system for your child’s achievement.

~Why is my child receiving AIS Services?~

New York State mandates that all public school districts offer Academic Intervention Services (AIS) to students falling behind in meeting the state standards. New York State has established specific levels for proficiency (cut scores) and students falling below these scores are eligible to receive AIS in the area of ELA and/or Math. However, these services are also provided to students, based on district criteria and teacher recommendations.

~What does my child do during AIS?~

You may be wondering what your child actually does during their AIS time. Students attend our small group ELA or Math. This time serves to solidify their understanding of the material presented in their primary classes and prepare your child for state tests. By working in a small group setting, and receiving one-on-one instruction, your child is able to address concerns and specific difficulties with several topics. Furthermore, this time is also used to teach your child the skills to become active readers and stronger mathematicians.
