A continuing goal of the football program is to develop clear communication between coaches, athletes, and parents/guardians. To fulfill this goal, the following ways of communication will be used:
1) Email will be an important part of communication with athletes and parents. All Shell Lake students are provided a school email, which the athletes should check regularly. Parents, if you have an email, please make sure your email is updated with the Shell Lake School District Skyward system. It will be used to communicate with you. Contact Amanda Nielsen in the 7-12 office if you need to update your contact information (nielsena@shelllake.k12.wi.us 715-468-7814).
Parents, please contact me via email at any time during the season and off-season. It is often the most convenient way to answer your questions or concerns. During the season, I will answer emails during the week, but on game day and the day after my focus will be on the contest. During these days I will do my best to check my email and respond if time allows.
2) The Shell Lake Football Program website. Explore the links and learn more about the Shell Lake football program. Much of the information from the Player/Parent Handbook is included, along with additional information for athletes, parents, and community members.
3) Communication over phone. During school hours my school phone extension should be used at all times. My personal phone will not be in use during that time. It may be difficult to get a hold of me via phone because of my teaching schedule. Please leave a message, be patient, and I will call you back when I get an opportunity. Just like the email policy above, on game day and the day after my focus will be on the contest, a parent may leave a message with me and I will try to call you back when I have time available.
You may contact me via my cell phone number during the off-season. I prefer a phone call rather than a text, because I would rather have a conversation.
4) Meeting in person. Meeting with parents/players can be a great way to eliminate any questions and foster better relationships. Coaches determine who starts, plays, player positions, and overall strategy; discussion of these topics will be discouraged. It is never acceptable for a parent to attempt to discuss the performance or playing time of another participant.
If you have concerns and want to meet in person, these meetings must be scheduled beforehand and will likely be at the school. Players can meet with me before or after practice if they have concerns. If a parent wants to schedule a meeting, the athlete should attend.Â
All meetings are confidential.
*Parents and players are expected to contact Coach Johnson directly. Assistant coaches or players should not be used as messengers from parents or athletes to share information with the head coach.
